A Great Gift for Granny Being Connected - Workology

A Great Gift for Granny Being Connected A Great Gift for Granny: Being Connected It’s not always easy to think of the right gift for Grandma or Grandpa because they always seem to have everything they need. Consider giving them the gift of connectedness this holiday season. My 78 year old mother joined Facebook and got her first email account on the same day last month. Her first reaction to the IDEA of getting a Facebook account was “I don’t want to share my personal information online, which I commonly hear from nonusers whether senior citizens or not. Explain to Grandma that it’s up to her to decide what she shares. I am very fortunate that my mother likes to follow my business Fan pages on Facebook. She “likes” everything I do! This is gold for any entrepreneur. Help Grandma set up her profile page and load a photo. Find all the things they love to follow. For my mom, we arranged for her to follow favorite schools, towns, local and national news organizations, a favorite store, and the Boston Red Sox.   Of course, she connected to cousins and other relatives. She loves to check her Facebook feed every day and see what is happening. Keep those “likes” coming Mom! Email is another great experience for our favorite senior citizens, especially when they get set up for the first time.   Instead of hearing news second hand or days later, they are now fully connected on their own. All of this brings to mind the reverse mentoring from companies. Many large companies pair Millennial workers with Boomers for reverse mentoring. The younger generation typically shares communication strategies including perspectives on social media usage. Your family is no different. It’s up to all of us to help the Greatest Generation get and stay connected. I am really proud of Grandma’s enthusiastic attitude about continuous learning. Along with mastering Facebook and email, she is learning how to use an iPad and taking Spanish classes. She enjoys every day and soaks in the new opportunities. During the holidays, many older people are feeling sad, lonely or disconnected. One of the greatest gifts we can share is to help these folks find a meaningful new way to easily connect. Whether it’s Grandma, Grandpa or an Aunt, teach them how to connect on Facebook, Pinterest or your platform of choice. You’ll gain something new in common and be richly rewarded for the experience. A Great Gift for Granny: Being Connected What’s your experience helping your older relatives be more connected?

4 Examples of Outdated, Counterproductive or Bad Career Advice

4 Examples of Outdated, Counterproductive or Bad Career Advice 4 Examples of Outdated, Counterproductive, or Bad Career Advice Not all profession guidance is made equivalent. Since we've been mature enough to settle on our own choices, our nearest relations have offered guidance on about each theme. It appears as though there is no limit to the consistent conclusions offered to us. Individuals may want to exhort us. This doesn't mean we need to acknowledge it. Profession guidance is the same. Our associates, family, and companions will immerse us with a bigger number of proposals than a Presidential Advisory Committee. While loved ones mean well, you might be better off selecting to follow master profession websites and data sections on the web. They'll have more applicable data than Aunt Mary or Uncle Fred. Be that as it may, be perceiving in the counsel you follow regardless. 1. Summer and occasions are horrible occasions to search for a vocation Follow this terrible profession exhortation and you'll be out of a vocation. There isn't a period for deserting your pursuit of employment. Regardless of whether you're easily utilized or effectively scanning for work, treat each second and open door the equivalent. Try not to choose not to see any activity posting or organization. In addition, summer and occasions are similarly as acceptable a period as any to search for vocations. Reality: Summer occupations and occasion recruiting freezes may hinder the business, contingent upon your segment and position, however there are no periods when it stops through and through. Employing chiefs set aside this effort to fill positions they may lose with the coming New Year. In addition, huge occasions harvest large transitory employing openings. Numerous retailers, producers and conveyance organizations recruit occasional work to fill their expanded requests. CoolWorks records occasional and summer occupations. Reward: huge numbers of their areas are top-level excursion spots. 2. Your resume must be one page OK, clearly, shorter resumes are better. Or on the other hand right? Continues once in a while go more than two pages. What's more, the more data you pack into your report, the more outlandish anybody will understand it. Then again, shorter resumes send the message you have no aptitudes, experience or accomplishments. At the end of the day, both long and short continues kill your odds. Competitors with under ten years of experience ought to make every effort to keep their resume at one page. The main motivation to go more than two pages is for official positions requiring more than customary experience and expert turn of events. Certainty: Most recruiting administrators dispose of resumes they can't comprehend inside six seconds. Without perusing the vocation rundown and sets of expectations, recruiting administrators need to examine the titles, headers, shot records and occupation positions. They are hoping to comprehend the competitor's fundamental capabilities, without perusing the whole resume. TopResume offers free resume scrutinizes to check whether your resume finishes the 6-second assessment. 3. Your introductory letter can't be inventive Inventive masterminds and innovative personalities need to show recruiting supervisors they can carry something to the group. An introductory letter doesn't need to be a dry, moderate correspondence. Spare second individual, expert and preservationist portrayals for the resume. The introductory letter is a spot to show your character and internal qualities. Remember, you're not composing an anecdotal story. It's alright to be inventive and innovative. Simply remember to be proficient. This is a request for employment. Not film night with your closest companions. Truth: Hiring supervisors see enough dry, exhausting introductory letters. They need a presentation, not another disgorged, consolidated resume or rundown. Utilize content that makes the employing director grin. 4. Shroud your shortcomings, or camouflage them as qualities Concealing your shortcomings is a certain something. Transforming them into qualities, well, that is called lying. Make sure to blunder is human. Employing chiefs acknowledge we as a whole have a few shortcomings. All things considered, nobody can be impeccable at everything. What's more, no, we're not instructing you to publicize your shortcomings. Be that as it may, don't cover them up by calling them something they're definitely not. On a resume and introductory letter, evacuate your shortcomings and supplant them with real demonstrated qualities. In a meeting, clarify how you beat shortcomings. Truth: Avoid humiliating minutes in the meeting by uncovering your most exceedingly terrible shortcomings. Volunteer some little shortcomings and give instances of how you defeated them. This goes far in demonstrating the recruiting administrator you take responsibility for and think quick on your feet. Recouping from botches It happens to potentially anyone. We endeavor to improve our professions, search for approaches to climb the stepping stool and, blast, flawed guidance thumps us down a couple of pegs. Committing an error is simple. Recuperating from the blow, well, it takes practice. The first, and potentially most significant advance, is to take responsibility for you fouled up. Neglecting to assume liability is a warning. Managers will regard a colleague who concedes their wrongs, finds a way to fix the issue and leaves the circumstance with another exercise and set of aptitudes. Liars, then again, are demonstrated the closest exit. Likewise fight the temptation to put fault on others, regardless of whether it genuinely was their deficiency.
